Overview
At the inaugural meeting of the UKCLE Islamic Law Special Interest Group, Lisa Bernasek gave an overview of the UK Islamic Studies Network, a project of the Higher Education Academy, funded by HEFCE. She provided some background information on HEFCE’s work related to Islamic Studies, an overview of the aims of the Islamic Studies Network, and information on upcoming activity and how participants can join the network or get involved.

Biography
Dr Lisa Bernasek has a PhD in Social Anthropology and Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University. Her PhD research focused on the collection, exhibition and circulation of North African art and material culture in state museums and North African-run cultural sites in Paris. Lisa has worked for the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies since October 2007 on projects related to Islamic Studies, and to support the Subject Centre’s work on Languages of the Wider World and Literary and Cultural Studies. She is currently the Academic Coordinator for the Higher Education Academy’s Islamic Studies Network.
